What Makes E7 Different

Four products, unified into one licence

E7 is Microsoft's first enterprise tier built around AI from the ground up — bundling everything an organisation needs to deploy Copilot and custom AI agents safely at scale.

🛡️

Microsoft 365 E5

The full security, compliance & productivity foundation

Microsoft 365 Copilot

AI in every Office app, no separate add-on needed

🤖

Agent 365

Governance and audit trails for AI agents at enterprise scale

🔐

Entra Suite

Zero Trust network access, Internet Access & Verified ID

E7 makes the most sense once you're actually rolling out Copilot to 200+ users and building custom agents with governance requirements. If you're still piloting Copilot with a small group, E3 or E5 plus a standalone Copilot licence is usually the better starting point — we'll help you work out which applies to you.

Quick Decision Guide

Which tier fits your organisation?

Choose E3 if…

Your staff are office workers who need full desktop apps and baseline security, without heavy compliance requirements or Copilot plans yet.

Choose E5 if…

You're in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, government) needing advanced threat protection, eDiscovery and Power BI Pro — but aren't ready for full Copilot rollout.

Choose E7 if…

You're deploying Copilot to 200+ users, building custom AI agents with Copilot Studio, and need centralised governance over how those agents access company data.

Choose F3 if…

Your staff are shift-based frontline workers — retail, healthcare, manufacturing — who need Teams, a mailbox and mobile-first Office apps, not a full desktop suite.

Choose F1 if…

You need view-only or kiosk-style access for frontline staff — the lowest-cost tier, with no dedicated mailbox.

Mix tiers if…

Most enterprises do exactly this: E7 for Copilot power-users, E5 for compliance-sensitive non-Copilot staff, E3 for general office workers, and F1/F3 for frontline — all under one tenant.

Frontline Workforce

Microsoft 365 F1 & F3

Microsoft 365 F1

$3/user/mo

View-only & kiosk-style access

  • Teams chat & shift scheduling
  • Entra ID P1
  • Dedicated mailbox
  • Desktop Office apps

Microsoft 365 F3

$10/user/mo

Full frontline productivity suite

  • Dedicated Exchange mailbox (2 GB)
  • Web/mobile Office apps & Teams

FAQ

Common Microsoft 365 Enterprise questions

What exactly is Microsoft 365 E7, and do we need it?

E7 is Microsoft's newest enterprise tier, generally available since May 2026. It bundles everything in E5 with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Agent 365 (AI agent governance) and the full Entra Suite into one licence at roughly a 15% discount versus buying all four separately. It makes the most sense once you're rolling Copilot out broadly (200+ users) and building custom AI agents that need centralised governance. If you're still piloting Copilot with a smaller group, E3 or E5 plus a standalone Copilot add-on is usually more cost-effective.

What's the real difference between E3 and E5?

Both include the same desktop apps, Teams and baseline security (Defender P1 for both Endpoint and Office 365, plus Entra ID P1). E5 adds the "P2" tier of security — full EDR threat hunting, Defender for Identity, Defender for Cloud Apps, Entra ID P2 with Identity Protection and Privileged Identity Management — plus Power BI Pro, Teams Phone System, and advanced Purview compliance tools like Advanced eDiscovery and Insider Risk Management. E5 typically makes sense for regulated industries or organisations needing a dedicated security operations capability.

Can we add Microsoft 365 Copilot to E3 or E5 without upgrading to E7?

Yes. Copilot is available as a $30/user/month add-on to E3 or E5. E7 becomes worth considering once you'd otherwise be adding Copilot, Agent 365 and the Entra Suite all separately — at that point the bundle typically works out cheaper than buying each piece individually.

What is Agent 365, and why does it matter?

Agent 365 is Microsoft's new control plane for governing AI agents — extending your existing Defender, Entra and Purview security posture to cover agents built in Copilot Studio, not just human users. As organisations deploy more custom AI agents that can access company data and take actions, having audit trails and access governance for those agents becomes as important as it already is for employees.

What's the difference between Microsoft 365 F1 and F3?

F1 is the lowest-cost, view-only/kiosk-style tier with no dedicated mailbox — suited to shared-device scenarios. F3 adds a dedicated 2 GB Exchange mailbox and fuller web/mobile Office and Teams access, making it the more common choice for frontline staff who need their own email address and a richer daily toolset.

Can we mix E3, E5, E7 and F1/F3 across our organisation?

Yes, and it's how most enterprises actually license Microsoft 365. A common pattern is E7 for teams heavily using Copilot and custom agents, E5 for compliance-sensitive roles without Copilot, E3 for general office staff, and F1/F3 for frontline workers — all under one Microsoft 365 tenant, billed per user per tier.

Design the right licence mix

Many enterprises blend F1, F3, E3, E5 and now E7 across different roles. We'll help you get it right — and avoid overpaying for tiers nobody's using fully.
