Which plan fits your team?
Choose Basic if…
Your team works mostly from a browser, needs professional email and Teams, and doesn't require installed desktop Office apps — ideal for light or frontline users.
Choose Standard if…
Your staff live in desktop Outlook, Word and Excel daily, and you want webinars and Bookings — this is the default choice for most small businesses.
Choose Premium if…
You handle sensitive data, need to centrally manage staff laptops, or must meet compliance requirements — Premium's security often costs less than buying those tools separately.

Common Microsoft 365 Business questions
What's the real difference between Business Standard and Premium?
Both include the same desktop Office apps, Teams and storage. Premium adds Microsoft Defender for Business (endpoint threat protection), Microsoft Entra ID P1 (single sign-on and Conditional Access), Intune device management, Windows Autopilot, Azure Information Protection, and a much larger 1.5 TB auto-expanding mailbox archive. If you handle sensitive data or need centralised control over staff devices, Premium is usually worth the step up.
Does Microsoft 365 Business Basic include desktop Word, Excel and Outlook?
No. Business Basic gives you the web and mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook only — there's no installed desktop app or desktop Outlook client. If your team needs to work in the full installed applications on Windows or Mac, you'll need Business Standard or Premium.
Can I add Microsoft 365 Copilot to any Business plan?
Yes. Copilot is available either as a standalone add-on to an existing Basic, Standard or Premium licence, or as a bundled "with Copilot" SKU for Standard and Premium at a combined monthly price. Every plan already includes Copilot Chat, Microsoft's free grounded web chat experience — the paid add-on brings Copilot directly into Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
What is Microsoft Entra ID P1, and why does it matter?
Entra ID P1 (previously Azure AD Premium P1) is Microsoft's identity and access management tier, included only in Business Premium. It enables Conditional Access — rules like "block sign-in from outside India" or "require MFA on unmanaged devices" — along with single sign-on across cloud apps. It's a foundational piece of a Zero Trust security posture.
Can we mix plans across our team?
Yes, and most businesses do. A common pattern is Premium for leadership and finance (who need the extra security and device management), Standard for general office staff, and Basic for frontline or occasional users — all under one Microsoft 365 tenant, billed per user per plan.
Do these Business plans work for organisations over 300 users?
No — Microsoft caps all Business plans (Basic, Standard, Premium) at 300 users per tenant. Organisations expecting to grow beyond that should look at Microsoft 365 Enterprise plans (E3, E5) instead, which we've also broken down in detail on our Enterprise plans comparison.
Not sure which plan fits?
We'll assess your team's needs and recommend the right mix — no upsell, just the right fit.
